Above And Beyond...

Holm's in the Middle!

The Blipfoto is of Flat Holm and Steep Holm Islands in the middle of the Bristol Channel. They are both composed of limestone and about 4 miles from Lavernock Point, Cardiff, from where I took the photo.

Flat Holm is part of Wales (managed by Cardiff Cty Council as a nature reserve) and Steep Holm is an English island managed by North Somerset council.

Both have a fascinating history with the earliest human habitation from the late Bronze Age (900-700BC), extending to Roman and Saxon occupations amongst others, plus uses which incuded defence locations during the two World Wars.

They fit my theme for this weeks wide angle Wednesday challenge in that they are in the 'M'iddle of the channel and both are called 'H'olm !!
