Life in Sunny Dubai

The Proms in Dubai

Had quite a leisurely start to the day as G didn't have to be in school till 10am. One of her students is on an improvised timetable or something like that! I drove her as I had to collect a bag of goodies sent over from SweetArt from a place nearby. Job done, and I sat it out at last week's cafe enjoying a pot of Arabic coffee!

Collected G and we had to kill some time as the cleaner was doing his thing and he likes to have the place to himself. We tried out a new place in Wafi called New York Bagels (nice) and even managed a couple of games of airhockey in the arcade next door.

Home for the afternoon and to rest up for the evening because we are going to ... The Proms! Yes, THE Proms... first time outside the UK and they chose Dubai. I actually bought the tickets last November. It was mainly the last night I wanted to go to, but it wasn't possible to do that unless you went on at least one another evening, so this is our "one other" evening. It was the BBC Singers doing Inspiration In Song.

They were fantastic and obviously very talented, but sadly, their playlist didn't really resonate with the audience. I'm sad to say, with things that needed to be done at home, we left at half time.

It was only my second visit to this fine venue. I LOVE the curves, but wasn't able to get a decent picture of them, so here is a shot of the boxes on the right side. Oh, and we got a free upgrade too! One level lower... I didn't realise the seats were so far up!

Think I am heading for another cold! Definitely feeling a sore throat and had to take Panadol for a fever. Argh! Thank you so much for birthday wishes for yesterday. :)

And last but not least, it's been awful watching the news about London. Today has actually been quite a bad news day on many fronts. Learnt first thing that the husband of a good friend (ex-colleague) lost his battle with lung cancer, and another is having many health issues.
