Sgwarnog: In the Field

It's been another beautiful early spring day, so I decided to walk the few miles over to the football at Guiseley rather than take the train.

I took the upland route, although that involved descending into Tong Park (first butterfly of the day: a Comma) before climbing up through Spring Wood and across the fields to Hawksworth and then up to the top of Odda Hill where expansive views into Wharfedale open up. From there it's a mile or so of muddy pasture into Guiseley where I arrived in good time for Guiseley's home match against Dover Athletic.

I'd attended the same fixture last year, which Dover won 1-0. Guiseley have been in good form for the past few months though, so there was hope that they might secure another point or three to help secure their survival in the National League for another year. Sadly it wasn't to be, Dover were the better team but the 0-4 score line was a bit harsh.

Today's main image was an obvious choice - the cherry blossom around the Hawksworth Estate buildings on the edge of Guiseley proving a big draw for a couple of Peacocks and Small Tortoiseshells.

In extras you'll find a couple of images from the walk over - one looking up the hill approaching Hawksworth, and a reverse from the same spot looking back across Baildon into Bradford, with the distinctive silhouette of Listers Mill sominating the view as always. Finally, one from the match, with Dover's Ricky Modeste clearing a Guiseley corner with a powerful header.
