Cowslips

Cowslips are happy on lime so we should be smothered in them on our chalk downland.  And yes, there are places (like Old Winchester Hill, which is actually several miles away) where they grow by the million.  However, there haven't been swathes of them round Winchester itself for as long as I can remember, just some self-seeded from gardens or on landscaped road edges.  But now, as you can see, I have found them out - a whole hilltop of them!

Eighty years ago there were so many of them people made cowslip wine to drink and cowslip balls for children to play with.  I'd like those days to come again..
