Cranbrook scene

What a glorious day. Earlier in the week, the forecast for today was thick cloud but we awoke to lovely sunshine which continued throughout the day.

Friends Al and Liz were over for the day so it was a day of good company and lots of food. It began with coffee and biscuits, continued into lunch with 7 different cheeses, two breads, crackers, pate, mixed bean salad and houmus.

As is customary after lunch we had a trip out, this time into the Kent countryside to visit Cranbrook, a lovely small town deep in the Weald of Kent. Some interesting shops where I bought a sink plunger and a can of paraffin from a little hardware store - as you do. Lots of interest for the photographer.

From Cranbrook we called in at a Farm Shop which turned out to be interesting but not the one we were planning to visit. Bought spelt flour for breadmaking amongst other stuff I didn't know I was going to buy. A detour on our way home took us to Rolvenden for a quick visit to the engine shed to see the rolling chassis of 4253 for the first time.

Scones and jam and tea preceded the evening meal - steak, potato and sweet potato wedges, peas, onions, baked field mushroom and tomatoes and a mushroom, brandy and cream sauce. As that wasn't enough we had steamed chocolate sponge and chocolate sauce for afters. Good job we only do this once in a while. Gym tomorrow.
