a lifetime burning

Crooked Crosses

"Desert sky, dream beneath the desert sky.
The rivers run but soon run dry.
We need new dreams tonight.
Desert rose, dreamed I saw a desert rose
Dress torn in ribbons and bows
Like a siren she calls (to me).

Sleep comes like a drug in God's country
Sad eyes, crooked crosses, in God's country"

U2 - In God's Country

As I was trying to get the crosses right on these hot cross buns earlier today, the U2 lyric about crooked crosses kept running through my head.  Its 30 years since the Joshua Tree album was released, and about that the same length of time since I saw them play the album at the Cardiff Arms Park in Wales with my brother Brendan.  Where did the time go?

Somehow, I decided against going with Tesco's line about Good Friday getting better!  You wonder what on earth they were thinking of, and who signed off on the advert :-)

This is my third attempt at hot cross buns, these came out of the oven earlier this afternoon.  I'm nearly getting there with the crosses - having never iced anything before and using a plastic bag with a hole in it as opposed to an icing bag, there's been a bit of learning process involved on my part.  Although they would not be up to bake-off standards, they do still taste good :-)

Meanwhile Cathy has been making the Simnal cake, which is in the oven at the moment.  There is the most delicious smell of cooking cake wafting throughout the house as a result.  Good times :-)

I hope your Easters are just as enjoyable.
