Scene, Ply, and the Frog and Bucket.

A couple of weeks ago, I read a review of a comedian called Tez Ilyas and decided to go and see him as he was playing at the Frog and Bucket in Manchester. (I don't go to many comedy gigs, really.)

The Minx and I had had a very relaxed day, which meant that we were down on our steps, so in the late afternoon we parked up in the Northern Quarter and walked west to the Irwell, before following the river down to Spinningfields. There's a large choice of places to eat and drink there, so as we were both hungry, we went into an Indian Street Kitchen called Scene, which was excellent (would recommend etc).

After that, it was back to the NQ for a couple of drinks in Ply with Hannah and her chap, as well as Simon of Not Quite Light fame. And then it was on to the gig.

The Minx was a little disappointed to find us (very) close to the stage, although neither act picked us out to chat with (although both did go for a group of lawyers who were out socialising together. Maybe they're like catnip for comedians). Admittedly, I did get invited up on stage but only to hold a placard.

As to the gig itself, we enjoyed it. I think the Guardian review was pretty much spot on: four stars. But just because it's not five doesn't mean you shouldn't go and see him if you can. It was a good evening out.
