Marjorie's ramblings

By walkingMarj

I love pies me

I went on the long festival walk today. It was warmer than Tuesday, but still very cold. We started in the pretty village of Edmundbyers and headed up onto the moor tops. The views were great. The wind and rain not so good.

The afternoon was drier and we marched along the dry tracks. Amazing.

En route we heard limericks, as we walked on Limerick Edge. At a disused and derelict farmhouse, Geoff told a sad tale of an unsolved murder and Kevin acted all the parts. It was hilarious.

Back at the Punch Bowl Inn we enjoyed a variety of drinks. Gwen and Irene presented Al with this teashirt (owing to his predeliction for pies) and a tiny pie to have later.

It was Maureen's birthday too and we had rich birthday cake at coffee time, thanks to Maxine's cooking skills.

I'm more tired tonight than I expected so I'm off for an early night.

Here is the long "limerick" composed especially for today's walk:

EDMUNDBYERS CIRCULAR RHYME
There was a long walk from the Punch Bowl
T’was not easy but strenuous so no stroll
It’s 11 miles long, if you’re wearing a thong
Then watch out for the chaps……..

You’ll see lots of old sooty flues
Before, passing Ramshaw, you will cruise
And at Muggleswick Park, please God before dark!
We head back to the pub for some booze!

There once was a vile homicide
On the trail that lead miners plied
And though times they were tough and they’d all had enough
Is it fair, then, that one of them died?

Tell me, is Alistair wearing his shorts
Do they suit him, please give some reports
Happy Birthday Maureen are you still in your teens?
Or is my vision becoming quite short

And then, there’s that lady called Marj
Who takes photos without any charge
She’d click and she’d click ‘til it made us all sick
But we still make our smiles extra large.
