The Newest Bunzini Shows 'em How It's Done

On May 7, in the mid-afternoon, after a stroll through our local gamelands, my husband and I spotted the tiniest bunny in the world. It had been chased out of its hiding spot at the edge of the yard behind the forsythia bush by a saucy chipmunk. The sighting was good news, for we have been bun-less for far too long.

It has been awfully hot here for a few days, more July than May. And so my husband and I were sitting on our porch in the evening cooling off, when we spotted the tiny bunny once again. It has become MUCH larger (though it doesn't look it). And it has become a fierce nommer of dandelions in the yard!

In the photo above, the newest (as yet unnamed, suggestions currently being taken) Bunzini shows 'em how it's done. She? or he? - lops the dandelion off at the bottom, then chomps it upside down. In the photo above, the dandelion almost seemed to be thrumming to some unheard rabbit tune. Then - chomp! - chomp! - SCHLURP! - it was gone!

The newest Bunzini played by the edge of the driveway, ate carrot slices offered to it on a blue frisbee, grew accustomed to the sound of our voices, and joyously binkied two feet into the air. What a show!

Welcome, welcome, to the newest Bunzini, I was ready to say. And there, I've said it officially now. But then my husband walked down the front stairs and into the other side of the yard. Guess who waited there.

Yup. You guessed it! ANOTHER BUN! We now have two new tiny Bunzinis in our yard! (In a curiously Yoda-esque voice, she says: There is . . . another . . . Bunzini.) Hello, little ones. Welcome to the land of hope and dreams.

The soundtrack: Bruce Springsteen and the E. Street Band, with Land of Hope and Dreams. This video is from the Hurricane Sandy benefit on 12-12-12. I had just seen Bruce and Co. on 11-2-12, so this is pretty much the version I got to see and hear live. Enjoy!
