Hard Hats

Back to work today.

Lots of e-mails and work to catch up on.

Everyone out on the lawns for the 11 o'clock minutes silence. We all held I love Manchester cards. Sad. And moving.

And early afternoon, a visit to the Second flood basin, under construction. Salford City Council has worked with the Environment Agency on this project, which will protect those residents and businesses affected by the 2015 Boxing Day floods.

Lots of murals cover every built structure. The Horse ? Castle Irwell was the site of the Manchester Racecourse, which closed in the 1960's. It is now a massive open space surrounded by some of Salford's most deprived communities. It is a jewel, a verdant place, surrounded by trees. Today I saw lots of sand Martin's, mergansers, oyster catchers, geese and gulls. Not quite the Lowry caricature of the city !
