The news has been of awful events. Again.

Mid morning we travelled to Burton Mere Wetlands, located at the southern end of the Wirral, beside the Dee Estuary. Our nearest RSPB reserve, and absolutely superb. It has the largest heronry in the north of England, with little egrets. great egrets, and a first - nesting cattle egrets. The extra is a view through reeds of a great egret, which are much larger than the now relatively widespread little egret.

The whole place was looking incredibly verdant - another extra is a view across to the Flint bridge and the Welsh hills.

We've watched the Manchester concert this evening on TV. I hadn't heard of Ariana Grande two weeks ago. An impressive young lady. And a memorable concert.
