A garden with a view

When clickychick posted a picture of the garden at Chapelside, Mungrisdale, I realised that it was a place I had often meant to go to, but had never got round to doing so. So, the very next time it was an Open Garden for NGS (National Open Gardens Scheme), we went – this afternoon.

What a wonderful, wonderful garden – just magical. Tucked away at the foot of the fells, the garden extends all round the house and many outbuildings. Lots of paths to follow, through trees and by water. Sculptures at every turn. A mixture of wild areas and more planted bits, but all very relaxed. Lovely colour everywhere. Lots of seats in shady and sunny places.

And then there are the views!

We know this whole area very well – it is Gordon’s favourite part of the world. When we had a static caravan we were not far from here and Mungrisdale was a regular starting point for walking and, in his case, running. We have climbed every fell and walked along every valley around here, many times. So it was a great delight to be able to see the views from this glorious garden.
