Nestling

Totally dependent on it's parents the bald little baby shag , one of three just hatched is being really well cared for and here being fed regurgitated fish by mum and a treat to see.

With a show of instinctive courage the parent shag sticks to it's seaweed, twigs and guano nest against all intruders - hissing, croaking and pecking menacingly in the air. The marauding gulls were rife and aways on the prowl.

It's nest on the rocks of Staple Island is part of a colony which moved here in 1930 and is being a real success. Both parents are in attendance and I absolutely adore the little quiff on the top of their heads which I think are rather fetching!

Joining in the wild baby challenge today at any rate :)) as set by Debbie
