Day 17-Simmer Dim

This is arguably my favourite view of Stromness. I took it this morning as the cock was crowing and most people were still in bed. It was a perfect summer's day, sunny warm and still. This is the first day since we came that the weather has approached anything like the kind we have had in past years.

We foutered about Stromness before going on the hunt for some decorative glassware we like. Eventually the piece we decided on was found in the craft shop in St Margaret's Hope, giving us the excuse to lunch in the Fossil Centre at Burray. Any analogy to the name of the Centre and the two diners therein is deeply offensive.

Back in Stromness, tradition required us to lick ice creams outside in the sun, and so we did, while watching the world go by.

Last night there was a beautiful sunset with pink clouds well after 10pm and at midnight there was still light in the sky. The 'simmer dim' of these Northern Isles.
