One Street: Tirer des plans sur la comète (2)

See Part 1 for context. I have ignored my One Street for a long time for the good reason that absolutely nothing has changed (I do go and check once in a while). But finally, some construction is actually happening. Over four years after the plan was first proudly displayed, the market hall is going up, in a matter of a few weeks. This is only one tiny part of the ambitious project to gentrify the  town centre that was announced in 2011. At this rate it won't be finished in my lifetime.

We were in Lézignan to see the film Les Hommes du Feu, only because it was filmed very locally to us. It's a drama about the fire brigade, but there isn't much of a plot -- it's more a slice of daily life among a group of firefighters, and an excuse for much dramatic footage of firefighting. It has some professional actors in it, but also genuine firefighters. The makers were "lucky" enough to be filming when there was a major fire near Narbonne two years ago, which destroyed hundreds of hectares of garrigue.

Afterwards we joined in the first of a local wine producer's summer "tastings" -- actually just an excuse for most people in the village, tourists and locals alike, to get together to eat, drink, and chat till late into the night. Although we do always show willing by buying a case of wine to take home.
