Marjorie's ramblings

By walkingMarj

A hot muddled day

Today's short walk was from the hotel and to a chair lift at the end of the village and then along a path to another chairlift. Nine miles in total.

Unfortunately, Peter, our leader, had not done the walk before and was relying on written instructions. He found these hard to follow. Not only was it over 3 miles to the chair lift, but we had people with us who were coming for only that bit of the walk and then going back. We walked through lovely meadows, but there was tension because we had to keep changing the route and we were worrying about those who were at the limit of what they could do.

We eventually made it. When we reached the top of the lift we quickly bought drinks and started our lunch. There had been no coffee stop, so it seemed sensible to take our break then, just in case there was no plan for lunch...

In the afternoon we walked along the side of the hill. It was all on tarmac and a mile of it was through stall upon stall of tourist tat such as I have never seen before. My idea of hell!!

So my little rant is to say that leaders should not be sent on routes they have not checked beforehand. I was exhausted by the end from our slow progress.

A large refreshing beer and a long hot shower were both very therapeutic.
