Foce

We spent the morning in Ascoli Piceno - the major town of the region by the same name.

Coffee in Miletti's in the Piazza Popolo which specialises in an aniseed drink but we just had a chocolate covered aniseed sweet with our coffee.

A pleasant walk around and then lunch in the same square - this time we had the regional speciality of Olive Fritti. Meat stuffed olives deep fried in crumb.

Weather has been cooler and more autumnal but the skies are perfectly blue and mountains clear and crisp. To complete our stay we returned via Foce, a tiny hamlet in the mountains but this time at the head of a valley rather than on a hill top.

This lovely dog greeted us when we left the car to walk to the head of the valley. I think he is quite young as he hasn't really grown into his feet yet. When we came level with the mountain sheep, resting under the shade of the trees, he rushed over and rubbed against them and then settled down to sleep as if he was back with his mum!

A beautiful day to end our stay in Le Marche. Dinner in Amandola before packing for our return trip to Rome tomorrow.
