Montacute House Gardens

It was a lovely morning.  I went for a  run – slightly further than yesterday, then TT went for his run.  It is so much hotter warmer than at home and I took bad with the heat and no cold wind.  After pottering around our small town and cottage most of the morning we packed a picnic and decided to go to Montacute House – a National Trust property near Yeovil.

First things first and we had our picnic.  We were the only people in the picnic area.  BB chose to sit in the shade and read his book, then played on some of the climbing apparatus.

We then wandered round the well-manicured gardens, while BB found another shady spot to read his book! BB was glad to go into the house to escape the heat.  Montacute House is a magnificent Elizabethan mansion.  It housed a display of portraits from the national Portrait gallery which were very interesting.  BB had a kids trail to follow and had to spot a number of interesting things around the house.  We then wandered around the gardens again, before stopping for a  rest in the tea room.  We then headed into the village and walked up St Michael’s Hill to the tower.  We all ascended the tower, and I am glad that the scary looking external stairs at the top of the tower were not accessible.  We lost our way as we came down the hill and ended up in a different field, but we made our way back to the village.

We were all weary as we drove home for a quiet evening. Here is BB admiring the garden, with its decorative walls and summer houses.  The extras shows BB reading his book in one of his sheltered spots, and the tower with the external staircase!
