And it only took 81 years...

Dear Diary,

Last year I mentioned a woman, Mary Brown, who served as a nurse in the Civil War.  She died in 1936 and her grave had never received a marker commemorating her service even though she is buried right next to her husband who had two separate markers mentioning his service in the war.  Many of us in the area took this up as a cause and organized a fund raiser for a marker.

I am so happy to announce that finally, after 81 years, Mary has a granite marker to commemorate her service as a nurse.  A long ago wrong has been righted.  I have always believed that women are often left out of "his"tory.  Their sacrifices and contributions never mentioned in the books.  At least, in this small cemetery near my home, "her"story has finally seen the light of day.
