Under the rainbow

I went up to Fort William on the bus today and thence to Morar on the train, to meet up with Mrs M and Daughter No 2 who have been staying in that village for the past week.

The weather hadn't been too great, but today got better and by the time I reached Morar it was looking quite promising. We went into Mallaig, and on the way stood on the road bridge at Morar to watch 'The Jacobite' steam train coming over the old rail bridge above the foaming waters of the River Morar. I joked that we'd probably chosen the day when they would be experimenting with smokeless fuel, but I couldn't believe it when it ran across the bridge with no trace of smoke or steam!

We went out again after dinner and climbed up to the Morar Cross to watch 'The Jacobite' steaming its way back to Fort William from Mallaig. The sight of a locomotive steaming arse-first is less elegant than its normal direction, but there's no means of turning it at Mallaig. Anyway, I decided not to Blip it in spite of the excellent smoke trail, and instead chose a rainbow over Mallaigvaig, Mallaig Vaig, Mallaigbheag or Mallaig Bheag, whatever version you wish to choose. Wee Mallaig basically.

I've added the smokeless loco as an extra!
