Organic

Our afternoon wandering today took us around the footpaths north of Wotton under Edge, but eventually we dropped down into the town itself. Randomly nipping in to St Mary's, a gentleman came over and invited us to view his organ. So we did.

This is allegedly one of the largest organs in the country, originally gifted to St Martin in the Fields, London, by the first King George and played by Handel. We were enthusiastically prompted to feel the lowest note, and feel we did.

I always wondered how on earth organists could play whilst whipping the voice knobs in and out all the time, and you can perhaps see between the keyboards electrical buttons that drive them with solenoids. Modernity!

I apologise to the gentleman if I've made him look a little portly. I stretched the bottom left side of the photo to correct the perspective a little.
