Minnesota Holiday ...

Day 4.

As we are trying to make the most of our holiday here in Minnesota we had another full day … with lots of driving!

One of the things I learned about Minnesota is that because of all the lakes there is a high production of wild rice … it is the official state grain!

That said … we drove to Rice Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Not only to see the wild rice that gives the lake it's name but to check out the birds/wildlife. We had high hopes of seeing lots of birds, but were quite disappointed. We could hear some water birds, but never really saw that many.

We did, however, see some Native American's in the lake amongst the rice … presumably harvesting the rice as they are the only one's that are allowed. There were two kayaks with two people in each … the front guy was poling through the rice whilst the person in the back was harvesting the rice.

Later on after supper we visited went to Crosslake, which is close to our condo to watch the sunset … it was stunning.
