A view from Jeanneb

To Betty's wood.

Where there is soon to be a big surprise. No trees!
Or certainly not as many.
We walked across Low Field in this interesting light this morning and noticed immediately that the main St Ives carpark was partially closed. Chatting to the man on duty he told us there were tree felling machines coming in this morning to fell Larch and Sweet Chestnut trees in Betty's Wood just above the car park. Apparently they are affected by a fungal disease and have to be removed to stop it spreading. We walked through for the last time and realised just how many Larch trees there were and therefore what an impact this will have. So this autumn there will be none of that lovely golden colour the Larch trees provide in the woods.

It is going to look very different next time we visit but the good news is they are going to replant with native broad leaf trees. Maybe not too good for us but very positive for future generations.

Left the woods to cross the moors and complete a 6 mile circuit back to the village.

(On request I've added an extra extra of Grace age 4 in the smocked dress I featured in my hobby blip - https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2354716159091147975
She also wore it the following February for her 5th birthday party. Don't tell my son I've posted this!)
