Canal, wood and river

The sky was looking good this morning and was an amazing colour as we drove down to Bingley for an early walk.
By the time we set out from Dowley Gap along the Leeds- Liverpool canal the best was past but there still a lovely pink glow reflected in the water above the locks.

Through Hirst Woods, full of fallen leaves, on the canalside to Saltaire and then crossing to the riverside in Roberts Park where the light was still creating interesting reflections of Victoria Mills in the River Aire.
Walking back along the river it became clear how high Storm Brian had made the water level, with water overflowing the banks in places. At the former wier (destroyed during Storm Desmond nearly two years ago) by the Bradford Boat Club the water was positively boiling. There was also a new duck pond in one of the fields, and the ducks were taking advantage of a new impromptu home.

It was a good walk, chosen specifically to avoid the wettest areas under foot and it stayed fine despite the forecast.
