Waiuta

I didn't even know Waiuta existed.

Waiuta is high up on a plateau at the head of the Grey Valley. Once is was a thriving gold mining town, complete with rugby field, hospital, baker, swimming pool etc.

Today only a few people live there. Various old buildings and ruins from the mining operation still exist. No bike on this trip but there is heaps of possibilities for rides.

I liked this view down the Grey Valley towards Hokitika and Greymouth.

Waiuta is a special place and well worth the long drive up a narrow, metal road.
