a lifetime burning

Today was the annual Saltford Santa Dash - a 5 mile run for charity, where the participants dress up as....yes, you've guessed.  Cathy and a large group of her friends took part, although its fair to say that none of them actually ran any of the course.  :-)

I understand that the race marshalls knew that the front runners were approaching from the sound of their trainers on the tarmac.  This was the competitive running group that could easily complete 5 miles - their run was all about jockeying for position in that final sprint.  The marshalls knew that the next group was coming from the heavy  breathing, all competent runners they struggled to keep up with the front runners whose pace was just that bit too quick for comfort.  From there the runners descended in degrees, getting to those that had been running but were now running and walking.  Finally there was Cathy's group - apparently the marshalls knew they were coming from the cheery conversation that preceded them around the course.

I am not complaining - we had that very rare thing for us, a roast in the local pub on a Sunday with our friends, and very convivial it was too.

Needless to say it has played havoc with proving the bread and all those other chores I'd planned to do today. But it really has been a terribly entertaining day and the chores will all get done at some stage this week ....eventually!
