Cambridge on a winter's day

Today I took Bianca and Kevin to visit the town of Cambridge - it is such a beautiful town/city, definitely one that all visitors to the UK should see. It was another grey and murky day, but at least it was a mild day at a temperature of 12C which is almost balmy for this time of year! It was also the winter solstice today, so we planned to get there in the morning and leave by 4pm when the light faded which is exactly what we did.

Adam also came with us and he showed them his college and then we walked around the town, looking in at various colleges and the sights of the city, including stopping off at my favourite coffee shop (Fitzbillies) for coffees - a cappuccino with oat milk for me. We had  a light lunch and then as it was so mild we decided to go on a punt tour. Adam did not join us but went back to the car where he sat working on his mini dissertation (managed to type up 1000 words so far!). It was wonderful on the punt, very cosy with blankets and the water was so still and calm, it turned out to be a totally enjoyable experience.

This is a view of the Bridge of Sighs, a copy of the one in Venice, that links St Johns College. Some extras of other scenes taken from the punt.

We had a bit of sticky traffic going home, but it was a relatively easy journey. Thankfully we had planned to go out for supper so I did not have to start cooking when I got home.

Tomorrow night Luke arrives home. He is very sad to be leaving Paris, his home for the past 6 months. I believe it has been quite an effort to pack everything up into a few suitcases and he will probably have to pay for excess baggage for the flight home, which cannot be helped when you are moving home. He starts at his new job in Berlin on 2 January so another new chapter for him.
