Nine Lessons and Carols

My last working day of the year. From a work perspective it’s been a very challenging 2017, in all sorts of ways.

To Manchester at the end of the afternoon. Met J for a bit of Christmas shopping, a meal, and then we went to Manchester cathedral for the Nine Lessons and Carols service. I like a bit of tradition at Christmas. It’s the first time I’ve heard the organ, it sounds tremendous (and it was very well played).

I was reading a commentary the other day which talked about how Christian imagery is disappearing from Christmas for many people (it’s a Santa fest). So for a bit of balance - I blipped this sculpture of the holy family, which had been moved centre stage for the service.
