Burglind

The name the German weather service gave to the UK's Eleanor storm.through the "adopt a weather front" service. Sponsored by a certain Burglind Gorn. The next storm with letter "C" (Christine) is also done and will no doubt soon be followed by "Dora", the next on the list. In 2018, female names for lows and we boys get the highs.

Burglind is an old German name you are never likely to hear. Best suited to some play out of Shakespearian times. It comes from "Burg"= castle and "Lindenholzschild" = Linden wood shield or sign.

And Burglind probably together with Christine, gave us a miserable wet and windy day - all day with constant flood warnings in southern Germany thanks to the warm Atlantic air and the rapidly melting snow in the Alps. There has been a good deal of wind damage throughout Germany.

I had to set off this morning to find a GP who hadn't closed for the week. Instead of going to one of those listed as being the stand-in for the GP I regularly used, did out of interest go to the one Angie went to yesterday for the tablets. Very old rooms next door to our butcher in Ottobeuren! Smallish waiting room packed and one kind person had seemingly just been to the Doner Take Away around the corner and ordered theirs with extra garlic. When he was called, one of the practice helpers shot in and ripped open the window and a sigh of relief went up.

Eventually got to see Doc, a very personable guy and it turns out he has only recently returned after years in Africa. So I guess he will be improving the interior in due course. He inspected the wound, re-dressed it and gave me the dressings needed until next week and a prescription for the disinfectant spray. Around the corner picked that up at the chemists. The whole deal took exactly one hour, acceptable given the shortage of open GPs.

Rest of the day was simply hunkering down, staying warm and dry. Luckily Angie volunteered to do both dog walks. After an evening sauna session in Ottobeuren, she returned very happy and relaxed and the animals joined her for an evening snack. She had to fight to get a place next to long-legged Eddie.
