Probolinggo

Today we reached the final stop of our cruise, Probolinggo, East Java.  This is certainly not the most exciting place on our itinerary, added to which this was the third port to be reached by tender boat and the longest trip to shore…

Our couple of hours in Probolinggo were taken up by a pedicar ride around the city and then it was back to the ship.  As we got on our tender boat we noticed the wind had got up but still weren’t really concerned…until we started to move.

Having taken 20 minutes to reach the ship in very choppy conditions, we were left waiting a good 40 minutes, in very rough seas,  while the boat ahead of us struggled to dock against our ship.  Had I not suffered from motion sickness it might not have been so dreadful, but it was.

Afterwards, we learned that the boat that kept us waiting had a failed port engine, which made pulling alongside incredibly difficult and all this in up to force 9 winds.

Of course we were all quite safe really, but it was a most uncomfortable experience.

My blip shows some the of traditional boats at the port and the extra the ‘view’ from the tender boat on the return journey.
