Tyntesfield

We had a free day today during our weekend in Bristol, and we decided to take the opportunity to drive out and visit this National Trust property.

Tyntesfield is described on the NT website as a "Spectacular Victorian Gothic Revival house with gardens and parkland".  The house certainly was quite spectacular - and huge.  It is surprising to learn that this massive building, complete with its own intricately decorated chapel (larger than many a village church) was built and used just as a family home.  The wealth needed to fund this building came from importing guano from South America to be used as a fertiliser for English fields.

The gardens are extensive and attractive as well.

A good visit.
