Edwardian conservatory

MrM and I spent a lovely afternoon at Wallington. Carpets of snowdrops and winter aconites everywhere.

We spent most of the time walking on the winding paths through the East Wood, where there are some enormous ancient trees - and a 'Snowdrop' sculpture (extra). We wandered through the Walled Garden too, and into the conservatory where we breathed in the "heady fragrances" (to quote the NT Handbook). Wonderful - scented narcissi and hyacinths, colourful cyclamen and primulas, and plants too numerous to mention (extra). And we even enjoyed tea and cake sitting outside in the sun.

We're already planning another visit - maybe on a weekday during term-time when it may be a little quieter and there'll be more chance of spotting red squirrels. And we'll visit the house too - not enough time today.
