Life's Little Moments

Beast in the East

For the last few days, we've been watching the "Beast from the East" dropping unprecedented amounts of snow over much of Europe.  All the while, those of us in the New York/New Jersey area have been enjoying spring like weather.  Well, now the Beast is in the East, and with a vengeance.  It's a classic Nor'easter storm which means that 1) it's unpredictable, and 2) blowing just a few miles off the anticipated track can make the difference between 2 inches versus 12 inches of snow.  At the moment, we are headed towards 8-12 inches of the worst kind of snow - wet and heavy.  The snowblowers will be coughing out chunks of ice and hard-packed snow while the humans grunt and groan trying to unbury cars, sidewalks, etc.  But for now, we are safely tucked inside while the snow comes down sideways outside, carried by gusty winds.

I took this from the inside of our garage with the side door open - me and my gear safely protected while the birds came and went, trying to stay fueled up.  I've put out extra of everything and going out every hour to clean off the feeders - this is very hard weather for the birds and the weak won't survive for long without food and water.  Fortunately, we have both in abundance.

So, today's blip is a lovely lady Northern Cardinal.  Impossible to get a clear shot because there is so much snow blowing around out there, but I kind of like the softness of this.  A far cry from yesterday's Tiny Adventures in the Garden...

Two more shots from today (the male cardinal in all his redness) and a chickadee blending in - Click HERE

Stay safe out there.

Debbi
