Emergence-y

Isn't Nature extraordinary? This is a cowslip which is further on than when I last peeped at it a week ago. I suppose the snow has insulated it a bit and it's just kept going. I did like the beauty of its tender green against the angularity of old growth and it won over the other possible blip of hellebores and crocuses.
Today, like many others (judging by the denuded state of the fresh veg section), we headed to the supermarket. If nothing else, this interlude has demonstrated how enormously reliant we are on food that has to travel ridiculous distances by air, sea and road to reach us and when any one of those links is broken, major supply lines are cut. A sobering thought.
Another discovery LH made whilst walking in deep snow is that his 'fix' to his walking boots was unsuccessful (basically, plugging a hole with liberal dollops of Nikwax). So he is now in receipt of an early birthday present. We hope that the price reflects a similar durability to his old ones (we reckoned at least 25 years) and they aren't tainted with the inbuilt senescence of any new object these days.
All that, and a visit to the garden centre to stock up on 'discounted' expensive bird feed, used up a whole heap of day. I'm going to have an evening of sewing to make up for it :-)
