Life in a Northern Town

Blipdog

Lizzie arrived in our family in May 2013, just after I joined Blip.

I wanted a puppy, but after catching gladders' journal and reading about how Gus came into their lives, I decided on a rescue dog instead. A chance meeting with a couple who had adopted a couple of greyhounds set the ball rolling, and there was no going back.

She has been with me for most of my Blip journey, saving me from umpteen Blip free days. She even met a few other Blip dogs herself, including the lovely Polly.

She had never been in a house before when she came to us, couldn't climb stairs and had never sniffed bacon. All that changed quickly. These days she is not so keen on the mad bursts of running, although the sight of a squirrel can still bring about a reaction. She is also getting a bit deaf, but can still hear cheese from 50 yards - that's quite a skill! Her favourite thing is lying on her back for a tummy rub, stopping is not allowed, and will be punished by a long snout being shoved up the crotch from behind when least expected.

She is my best pal.

If you are considering a rescue dog there are thousands of greyhounds and lurchers needing good homes, especially the black ones that the rescue centres find so hard to re-home. They don't need much exercise, they are affectionate, calm, gentle and quirky, they don't shed and need virtually no grooming. Plus they are proven to be very good for your health, as are all dogs.

PS - there is a video of the badgers here.
