The Severn Vale floods from Wainlode Hill

The weather has finally turned and  we woke to find the sun was shining this morning and it has done so for most of the day. I had a slow start and enjoyed watching various birds in the trees and bees feeding on blossom.

I wanted to cook fresh tofu for supper which meant driving to Gloucester to a Chinese food emporium which are the only places that regularly sell it. When i mentioned it to Helena she said she would like to come and we decided to drive a little further north to visit a pub on the banks of the River Severn beside Wainlode Hill.

Arriving by the small back road we descended down the hill and were surprised by the scenes of flooding all across the flood plain of the river. We found a table on the grassy bank of the river beside the pub and slowly drank a half pint of bitter (me) and half a pint of cider (Helena). Birds snag loudly, the river was surprisingly noisy where water flowed over trapped wooden debris brought down by the fast flowing stream. It was lovely to be relaxed and feel the sun warming our skin.

On the way home I stopped at the top of the hill and looking back northwards towards Evesham I took this picture to record the floods fields. It was interesting to see the varied light where the sun shone through the increasing cloud cover bringing out the colours as spring growth brightens the landscape.
