The Sound of Spring

Spring has many sounds. Smaller birds sing, swans and geese fly over honking, not to mention the sound of their wingbeats if they fly low overhead and mice are heard once more, rustling around in the walls of the house.  But the sound I love the most is water, dripping from the roof, running down the ditches, and this year, roaring down stream beds in one of the largest spring floods we've seen.
There is perhaps 20 times more water in this stream than usual. Compare with a previous year.
In places the stream is constricted and the flood starts to back up until the roaring goes quiet as the stream turns into lake, albeit a lake with fast running water and strong eddys.  You can see an example of that, plus the handiwork of the local beavers, in today's extra.
