Awaiting "right of way"

Another Railway Experience Day on the KESR. Six more eager enthusiasts paid a substantial amount of money to ride, drive, fire and guard a steam train on two round trips on the railway with bacon rolls, a fine lunch and unlimited tea and coffee and plenty of loo stops along the way.

In this shot, the fireman is looking for the signal from the guard who has just closed the gates above Cranbrook Road crossing so as the train can proceed on to its final destination up the bank and around the sinuous track to Tenterden Town Station.

Despite the cold weather, there was a little sunshine before the rain set in at the very end of the day. The footplate was the place to be today.
