Nicky and her Nikon

A moment of blue skies

Today has not been a good day - after being so well yesterday, we woke up again to evidence of vomit all over the kitchen floor and poor Murdoch did not seem well. He was also behaving in a very strange fashion, trying to hide under the kitchen table and not being his usual self.

I had to take Luke to the dentist so I dropped him off and went grocery shopping. When I got back home there was vomit (a clear bile) all over the floor with lots of blood in the vomit. I immediately phoned the vet and he was about to go into surgery but he said he would wait for me to get there (he is a fantastic vet!) I phoned the dentist to say Luke would have to walk home when he came out - it is not that far and a flat surface to walk on.

The vet thinks he has eaten something bad - he was given injections to stop vomiting, another one for nausea, and another one with an antibiotic in it. It is all related to the other day when he was vomiting and even though he seemed so much better yesterday the vet said they can be up and down. He checked his pancreas as Schnauzers are prone to pancreatitis but it seemed fine. He thinks the blood is from a damaged oesophagus from all the vomiting and not from poison or something else. Since we got home Murdoch has been drinking excessively - just standing at the garden water feature and not moving from there and just drinking and drinking. He also would not come indoors and was hiding under shrubbery in the corner of the garden - all very out of character for him. I was told to feed him little bits of chicken & rice/scrambled egg & rice/cottage cheese & rice as apparently they recover better by eating, contrary to how we feel when we have an tummy problem. However he is not eating at all, just drinking and drinking. He is due back at the vet tomorrow morning for a follow up so we will see how that goes.

Other than that I have been busy washing the kitchen floor with bleach and washing his dog blankets as he was sick in the car to and from the vet. I am worried about him but dogs are like children, they seem to get really sick and then recover quickly, so I hope that will be true.

This image was taken after I went grocery shopping, some lovely light and bright skies after a bit of rain. It is typical spring weather with sunshine and showers at the moment.
