Whit Walks

The Manchester and Salford Whit Walks. A northern tradition.

No doubt not the attendance of days of yore (J remembers floats and Sunday school queens in her home town). Church attendance is well down these days.

They all walked down Deansgate and then Peter Street, ending up at a service in Albert Square, led by the Anglican bishop of Manchester and the RC bishop of Salford, with the ceremonial mayors of the two cities in attendance.

A bit of pageant on a sunny day in the city centre.
