Bee on echinacea

Monday
We went biking again late morning, this time, starting at Corwin and heading north. It was another hot, humid day, and whilst this stretch does have a couple of open areas passing through fields of corn, they weren’t too long, before going into more shady areas again. I decided I would turn around at 10 miles, but at 9.7 miles, there was a tree down across the trail, so I decided 9.7 would do! Roger lifted his bike over and did another mile. The tree had obviously fallen recently - maybe in yesterday’s storm. At one point on our return, we felt spots of rain, and yet the sun was still shining. We never got really wet, but as we got a bit further on, the trail was really wet, with puddles in places, so it must have been a very localized shower. When I stopped to try and get a picture of the bees on the echinacea, or purple cone flowers as they are known over here, it was like being in a sauna, the strong sun causing the wet surface to steam! When we got home, around 2.15, we discovered we were without power - our neighbour, Lori, reckoned it had gone out about 1pm. Further conversation with the workmen on the road revealed that another tree had fallen onto the cables on an adjacent street. The weight of the tree had pulled in the adjacent cable poles, so there was a lot of work to do. I guess all the rain there has been in recent weeks has made a lot of trees rather unstable. Not surprisingly the power was still out at dinner time, so we were “forced” to go out to eat, using a 50% off voucher we had to use up! The power finally came back on around 10.30!
