Love in a Mist

Such an appropriate name for this lovely plant, Nigella damascena, with it's flower enclosed in a froth of lacy bracts.  It's a member of the buttercup family, Ranunculaceae.  An easy to grow annual, the flowers are followed by attractive, inflated seed capsules.  Native to Southern Europe and North Africa, it has been grown in gardens since Elizabethan times.  Often a paler, Cambridge blue, I rather like this darker one.

Basketball, shopping, cooking, eating, telly, gardening.  Some of it sociable, some of it solitary.  A good day.
