Nicky and her Nikon

Somewhere in France...

....near Strasbourg I think....quite early in the morning so the light was a still a bit flat.

We were up at 3am this morning which was pretty awful, and on the road by 3.45am. It had started raining last night, rained all night and was still raining with low cloud cover when we drove off. I felt very sad to be leaving but the rainy weather made me feel a bit better! We were so lucky with the beautiful weather we had in all our time there, but then we have had bad weather during past visits so we were owed some good weather!

The journey was uneventful and we seemed to get to Calais fairly quickly - we did stop to eat our breakfast and let Murdoch have a run around and then one other quick stop on the side of the road to get this photo. The French countryside was looking so lovely, the farmers have been taking advantage of the dry weather and there were bales everywhere!

We got home at about 2.45pm, and the first thing I did was to empty the manky vegetables out of the fridge (the boys are good at buying food and cooking it, but have not quite got the hang of clearing the fridge when it needs to be done!) and then go to the supermarket before things sold out - as it was I ended up going to two supermarkets as Waitrose had no salmon and we have planned a salmon lunch tomorrow.

Meriel is here for the weekend and Luke and her had gone out, but it was lovely to see them again when they got back later on. It is still so hot at home and the next two weeks look incredibly hot, especially for those commuting on the stuffy trains and tubes. Our garden is looking so lovely, all my agapanthus are in bloom and due to the irrigation system it is not looking dry and brown.

It will be an early night I think, I am feeling very tired and I never managed to sleep in the car.
