Chaps in caps

Today Sis and I had an early pub lunch then rolled down the road to the Twyford Waterworks open day.  Neither of us had been before and we had no idea what we were in for.  Well, chaps in caps, is the answer.  They were all wearing them and getting deeply involved in explaining the engineering marvels of the place.

(Okay, this guy wasn't, but then he was standing guard over the furnaces that were creating the steam, so who can blame him?)

The man in extras is wearing one.  He was desperate for visitors to admire his pet generator and turned it on just for me  ;)  There were also chaps in caps running the mini working train, explaining the lime kilns (lime was used to soften the water), flipping the burgers and playing games with the fire hose.  Plus imagine large groups of people wearing either Edwardian or steampunk gear picnicking under the trees while we all admired their vintage cars/tractors/landrovers.  Oh and not forgetting a lovely wildlife area complete with painted lady butterflies (the first I've seen this year) and southern hawkers over the pond.  A truly eccentric occasion.

And that's been my Sunday.  Hope you've enjoyed yours xx

Just as a reminder, WildflowerWeek has rolled over again and entries should now be tagged #WFW09
