New life

A sudden urge for fresh air and exercise saw me heading to Chobham Common, the largest National Nature Reserve in the south east of England and a wonderful example of lowland heath, managed by Surrey Wildlife Trust.

Although living around a short 20min drive away for over 20 years, it was my first visit, and I was a bit disappointed to find that car parking fees have just been introduced @ £1.30 an hour. This limited my enjoyment of a walk round this wonderfully rich and peaceful site as I had to “watch the clock”.

This little corner of common land next to the road and car park has been devastated by fire - fortunately not too extensive, and it it great that there are signs of new life already.
