Red River

A poppy installation has arrived at the Imperial Museum North, remembering all those who died in the 1914-1918 conflict. The four year commemoration of that conflict will end on November 11th of this year.

We had travelled to the Quays for an after work pizza. Very busy, there are two big shows on at the Lowry.

But passing this sea of ceramic poppies it was impossible not to remember that today is the anniversary of the terrorist attack on the twin towers in New York in 2001. That event led to a whole series of events and (in my view) miscalculations which has led to long and continuing wars and civic strife, huge loss of life, displacement of peoples, and ultimately a much less stable world. So perhaps the poppies are not just for those who lost their lives 100 or so years ago.   .
