Time to go

A beautiful sunrise as we boarded the ferry, which was pretty much all we've seen of it a day. The crossing was fine with less obvious swell than the windless day we had coming up! These things are beyond my poor comprehension of nautical matters, but I just assume that 'out there' off the distant horizon some other event had stirred the waters vigorously and we experienced the result! Having watched a recent programme about 'wreckers' (and discovered that inhabitants of the Orcadian isle of Swona were feared by mariners as notorious wreckers) I appreciate even more that the massive whirlpools and eddies in the Pentland Firth make it very dangerous to navigate. The expanse of the Atlantic meeting the North Sea through this narrow passage makes for interesting currents!

Anyway, we've been blown about a bit by Storm Ali and seen little of the Scottish Highlands other than spray off the road, but have just crossed the Scotland/England border in dry weather. Still windy though.

Hopefully home just after midnight.
