Malayan tiger

Friday
We enjoyed a tour around the world today, thanks to Cincinnati Zoo. The morning was really dull and gloomy, though still quite warm, but the sun finally broke through, giving us a beautiful sunny afternoon. I had really planned on posting a different animal, as I have blipped the Malayan tiger once before (though a number of years back now!), but I just couldn’t resist this pose - behind a glass screen, in case you’re wondering - and the direct eye contact. Last year the zoo welcomed three Malayan tiger cubs, a triumph for the animal populations, which are rapidly disappearing in the wild. Due to habitat destruction, fragmentation, and poaching, the Malayan tiger, native to the Malay Peninsula and the southern tip of Thailand, is ranked as critically endangered, with an estimate of only 250 to 340 adults left in the world.
I have posted a couple of extras, the East African crowned crane, and the Coquerel’s Sifaka, member of the lemur family, and native to Madagascar
