A time for everything

Return of summer

Saturday
Summer-like weather was back today (and for the next couple of days), topping out at 87F, and there were quite a number of kayakers and canoeists out on the river making the most of it. We were not on the river ourselves, but cycling on the bike trail. We decided it was about time we took the tandem out - we haven’t ridden it yet this year, so after breakfast, and once Roger was done watering his grass seed he’s put down this week, we set off. Our first choice of starting point, Kings Mills, there was no parking left, so we had to go a bit further north, to South Lebanon, and even there, there were only a couple of spots left. We had a good ride, doing 24 miles return. Riding the tandem is a different experience - I always ride at the back, which means I can’t see where we’re going, unless I sit up really straight and peer over Roger’s shoulder, but on the other hand, because I don’t have to worry about steering and where we’re going, I have more freedom to enjoy the passing scenery to the side!
This evening we were invited to an Oktoberfest party, at the house of one of Roger’s former colleagues. We actually knew them first when we were over in France - T. was working in Toulouse at Airbus, while Roger was at Villaroche, south of Paris, but they would be on phone calls together all the time, and would meet up periodically at meetings. T. Is a great beer enthusiast, and brews his own beer, and his wife M. is a great cook, and she had been very busy. For dessert, for example, she had made chocolate cakes and 9 strudels - all from scratch - 3 Apple, 3 blueberry and 3 peach! I had a sample of the first two - delicious! A friend who had been there last year told us M. ran a bit short on food last year - so I think this year she over compensated - though they did have a big crowd of people. Anyway, a fun evening!
