Abiding in the eternal radiance

Back in Edinburgh this afternoon ...

... mentioned that we'd visited Barter Books a few days ago; well here is the edited letters (1984, Alan Bold) of Hugh MacDiarmid, which I've long been searching for a decent copy of!

At nearly 1,000 pages in length, it may take me quite some time to read through the whole collection ... so meantime, here's a snippet of 'MacDiarmid verse' that Alan Bold concludes his introduction with:

The eternal radiance

I know that in the final artistic
- The highest human - vision
There is neither good nor evil,
Better nor worse,
But only the harmony
Of that which is,
The pure phenomenon
Abiding in the eternal radiance.
